Advocacy

Since SAFE’s forming in 2019, we have consistently advocated against attacks on homeless people and other marginalized people in our community. From pressuring the City to open cold weather centers during storms to countering the City’s survival ban, we have lost count of how many times we have intervened, but here are a couple of examples of recent tactics:

In 2022, we marched on the Boulder County Sheriff’s Department and successfully blocked the Sheriff and County Commissioners from instituting a county-wide survival ban that was set to criminalize any form of shelter from the elements that is not a house.

As of 2023, we regularly put up posters along the Pearl Street Mall to agitate and educate around homelessness and police abolition.
